Homs Electricity Restored Following Repairs to Sabotaged Cables

The General Electricity Company of Homs has announced the successful restoration of electrical power to several neighborhoods within the city. The service restoration follows emergency maintenance operations carried out by technical teams to repair significant damage caused by the theft and sabotage of medium-voltage power cables.

According to Munther Al-Wais, the Director of Operations and Investment at the General Electricity Company of Homs, these acts of vandalism targeting electrical infrastructure caused power outages across multiple city neighborhoods as well as several villages in the Homs countryside. The damage was primarily concentrated on power lines originating from the South Homs station, located near the Kafraya bridge. These acts of sabotage resulted in fires within the network, directly impacting the stability of electricity supply for residents and local institutions.

In an official statement, the Syrian Electricity Company condemned these attacks on the power grid. The company stated that such actions directly obstruct ongoing efforts to improve electricity supply and deprive citizens of essential services. Emphasizing that protecting the electrical infrastructure is a shared responsibility, the company called for a unified effort between relevant authorities and the public to ensure the continuity of service and prevent further depletion of national resources.

Regarding field operations, maintenance crews have completed repairs on the city’s power lines, and electricity has been successfully restored to those areas. Technical teams are currently working to address the damage sustained by the rural power lines, which remain out of service. The company confirmed that repair work is ongoing in these areas with the aim of restoring power as quickly as possible.

These compromised lines—specifically the Ghazala, Ableh, Water, and Housing lines—constitute a vital segment of the medium-voltage network. Their removal from service significantly widened the scope of power outages across the affected regions. These restoration efforts are part of the ongoing initiatives by the Syrian Ministry of Electricity and its affiliated companies to maintain grid stability and rehabilitate damaged infrastructure, despite the substantial challenges that these acts of sabotage continue to pose to maintenance and repair operations.
