Hama Hosts Chess Tournament to Select Provincial Team

The Technical Committee for Chess at the Hama Directorate of Sports and Youth recently hosted a provincial tournament for young players. The event, which featured age categories for 8, 10, 12, and 14-year-olds, served as a key preparation for the upcoming Syrian National Chess Championship scheduled to take place in Aleppo on October 14.
The competition saw broad participation, with 75 players representing various sports clubs across the province. Participants competed in a serious environment, demonstrating a strong commitment to achieving their best technical performances. Anas Ayan, head of the Chess Technical Committee in Hama, stated that the primary objective of this event was to select one player from each age category to represent the province in the forthcoming national competitions in Aleppo.
Tournament referee Duha Farha highlighted the vital role such events play in elevating the technical skills of emerging players. She noted that these tournaments are essential for refining talent and developing field experience by fostering a spirit of competition among the youth. Farha praised the performance of the participants, describing it as a promising standard that indicates a bright future for the players in this mental sport.
This tournament is part of the ongoing activities managed by the Hama Chess Technical Committee. In April, the committee organized a provincial tournament for the men’s category, which included 30 players, among them 10 internationally ranked individuals, underscoring the active sporting climate in the province. Hama maintains a rich history in chess, with its players having previously secured top positions in numerous national and Arab-level championships. The committee aims to uphold this legacy by investing in the development of young players and preparing them for future competitions.
