Google AI Services Now Directly Accessible in Syria

The Syrian Ministry of Communications and Technology has announced a significant update to the nation’s digital infrastructure, confirming that Google’s AI services are now directly accessible to users within Syria.

In an official statement, the Ministry explained that these digital tools can now be accessed without the use of Virtual Private Networks (VPNs). For years, users in the country have relied on such software to bypass technical restrictions on international digital platforms.

This development is described as part of a broader government initiative aimed at the gradual opening of the Syrian digital sector. The government stated that this move is intended to provide citizens with wider access to artificial intelligence tools and various international digital services.

Officials view this step as a notable shift in the country’s technological landscape, signaling a potential move away from years of digital isolation. Minister of Communications and Technology, Abdul Salam Haykal, had noted previously in July that the reliance on VPNs for international services would eventually decrease as new measures are implemented to provide users with broader connectivity options.

Google’s AI platform provides a variety of generative artificial intelligence features, including text processing, answering user queries, summarizing and analyzing digital content, and assisting in the creation of various types of media.
