Syrian and Turkish Chambers of Commerce Discuss Economic Cooperation

The Syrian Union of Chambers of Commerce, represented by the head of the Joint Foreign Relations Committee, Anas Al-Bou, held official discussions in Damascus with a high-level Turkish economic delegation. The visiting group from the Foreign Economic Relations Board of Turkey (DEIK) was headed by the President of the Turkey-Syria Business Council, Mahsum Altunkaya.

In a statement released on Thursday, the Syrian Union of Chambers of Commerce noted that the talks primarily focused on establishing practical mechanisms to strengthen trade and investment relations. A key priority of the meeting was identifying ways to remove obstacles currently facing businesspeople in both countries. These efforts aim to pave the way for Syrian and Turkish companies to forge sustainable partnerships, particularly within vital sectors such as productive industries and reconstruction projects.

Anas Al-Bou emphasized the significance of these discussions, stating that they represent a shift in Syrian-Turkish economic relations from a theoretical framework to the development of concrete, practical partnerships. He reaffirmed the Union’s commitment to fostering a supportive environment for the business sector, ensuring the exchange of expertise and the opening of new investment markets that serve mutual interests and contribute to economic growth.

The visiting Turkish delegation comprises 29 participants representing a wide spectrum of strategic economic sectors. Their agenda includes discussions on cooperation in areas such as food and pharmaceutical industries, construction, and infrastructure. Furthermore, the delegation is addressing sectors including energy, agriculture, logistics, and technology, signaling a shared desire to diversify cooperation in fields that align with current and future development requirements.

These high-level meetings are part of broader efforts by relevant Syrian authorities to improve the investment climate and attract regional cooperation to support the national economy. The initiative seeks to strengthen the business environment and expand trade partnerships with neighboring countries, serving both reconstruction strategies and the revitalization of national production sectors.
