Terrorist Plot to Target Homs Refinery Thwarted

The Syrian General Intelligence Directorate, working in close coordination with Internal Security forces, has successfully thwarted a terrorist plot targeting vital infrastructure in Homs Governorate, specifically the Homs oil refinery. According to statements released by security authorities, investigation and close surveillance led to the identification of a terrorist cell linked to the Hezbollah militia. Security agencies have successfully apprehended all members of the cell involved in the plot.
In a statement issued through its official channels, the Internal Security command confirmed that the operation is part of ongoing efforts to track down terrorist cells and dismantle their plans. The operation was aimed at protecting the country’s economic and vital facilities from any aggression targeting Syrian state assets. During the raid, security forces confiscated a quantity of explosive devices that the cell had already prepared for the intended attack on the refinery.
The Homs refinery serves as a fundamental pillar of the Syrian economy, playing a central role in supplying the local market with essential oil derivatives. The facility has recently undergone significant development projects. Most notably, in October, maintenance and rehabilitation work was completed on Atmospheric Distillation Unit No. 10. With a design capacity of one million tons of crude oil per year, this unit has tangibly enhanced the refinery’s capacity to produce diesel, fuel oil, and kerosene, thereby supporting the stability of supply for these derivatives across Syrian provinces.
This security operation reflects the high level of vigilance maintained by specialized agencies to protect Syria’s strategic infrastructure amidst ongoing security challenges. The incident underscores the vital importance of the Homs refinery as an irreplaceable economic facility for meeting the energy needs of various sectors. Consequently, the refinery remains a primary focus for security services, which work to ensure its safety and the uninterrupted continuation of its production activities.
