Al-Hasakah Resumes Receipt of Improved Seeds After 10-Year Hiatus

The Al-Hasakah branch of the General Organization for Seed Multiplication has officially resumed its operations, receiving shipments of sterilized and graded wheat seeds for the first time in over a decade. This development marks a significant step in the organization’s efforts to secure essential agricultural production requirements and provide certified seeds to farmers across the province to bolster the local agricultural sector.

Shiar Maou, director of the organization’s branch in Al-Hasakah, confirmed that the initial shipments have already begun to arrive. The incoming supply includes a diverse range of improved wheat varieties, specifically Sham 7, Sham 9, Sham 10, Douma 1, Douma 6, and Buhuth 9. Maou noted that teams are actively working to ensure these varieties are distributed to farmers at the most appropriate times for the agricultural season. He further stated that additional shipments are expected to arrive in the coming period.

This initiative holds particular importance as the organization seeks to enhance agricultural productivity in Al-Hasakah. By utilizing wheat varieties that are carefully studied and well-suited to the region’s specific climatic and environmental conditions, the program aims to strengthen food security. Furthermore, the initiative serves to address the needs of local farmers who have faced a consistent shortage of improved seeds over the past ten years.

The resumption of the branch’s activities is part of a broader, ongoing effort to reactivate public institutions within the province. By securing the necessary support for the upcoming agricultural season, officials aim to create a positive impact on regional production and facilitate easier access to essential inputs for agricultural producers.
