Ministry of Sports and Youth Forms Syrian Padel Committee

The Syrian Ministry of Sports and Youth announced on Monday the issuance of an official decision to form a founding committee for the Syrian Padel Federation. This move is part of the Ministry’s efforts to strengthen the organizational and administrative structures of emerging sports federations in the country, ensuring an institutional framework is in place to oversee the development and spread of padel, a sport that is gaining increasing interest both globally and locally.
According to the Ministry, the committee’s leadership has been appointed, with Fouad Issa named as President of the founding committee and head of the federation, and Omar Al-Darbas as Secretary-General. The committee also includes members Mohammad Salwaya, Abdul Rahman Al-Saruji, Mohammad Yaman Naghnagh, Zeina Al-Tara, Louay Kabab, Mohammad Nour Maamar, Moayad Al-Masry, Ghaith Salim, and Thair Al-Jahjah. This group is tasked with drafting the internal regulations that will govern the federation’s operations in the coming period.
Under the ministerial decree, the new federation will be affiliated with the Ball Games Directorate at the Ministry of Sports and Youth. The president of the founding committee is scheduled to call members to a meeting to begin defining the regulatory and technical frameworks required for the practice of the sport. This initiative responds to the growing popularity of padel among various youth groups in Syria and aligns with the widespread international expansion of the game.
Padel, which has begun to establish a notable presence in Syrian sports circles, is a sport that combines characteristics of both tennis and squash. It is typically played on enclosed courts with specific dimensions that are smaller than traditional tennis courts, giving it a dynamic nature that relies on speed and skill.
This step reflects the Ministry of Sports and Youth’s focus on modernizing its sports system and broadening the base of activities practiced in Syria. By providing the necessary regulatory and legal coverage for sports federations, the Ministry aims to ensure their development according to clear administrative and technical foundations, ultimately contributing to the engagement of more young people in organized athletic activities.
