Central Bank of Syria Reopens Banking Training and Qualification Center

The Central Bank of Syria announced on Sunday the reopening of its Banking Training and Qualification Center, following a two-year hiatus. This initiative aims to bolster the Syrian banking sector by equipping personnel with the expertise required to navigate the rapidly evolving landscape of the financial industry.
In a statement shared via its official Telegram channel, the bank confirmed that the center will focus on developing professional skills across several critical areas. These include risk management, banking supervision, and anti-money laundering and counter-terrorism financing protocols. Additionally, the curriculum will emphasize strengthening cybersecurity and financial management capabilities. The center will also dedicate specific attention to modern financial technologies and the promotion of financial literacy and banking awareness.
The Central Bank’s vision for the facility is to establish it as a leading institution for banking training and a primary resource for the sector in Syria. To achieve this, the bank’s development strategy relies on international partnerships. A key element of this strategy is the cooperation agreement signed last September with the Frankfurt School of Finance and Management, supported by the German KfW Development Bank.
This partnership is designed to enhance the competencies and capabilities of the Syrian banking workforce over a three-year period. The program will provide specialized training designed to improve institutional performance and ensure alignment with international standards and expertise. Furthermore, the center plans to establish additional twinning agreements with international institutions and recruit highly qualified local and international trainers to ensure the quality of its training outcomes.
The reactivation of the center is considered a strategic move intended to improve the performance of the banking sector as a whole. The bank expects these efforts to contribute positively to the stability of financial operations and increase the capacity of the sector to address contemporary economic and technical challenges. This development is part of the Central Bank of Syria’s ongoing efforts to upgrade banking operational mechanisms and keep pace with the latest global practices in the field.
