Child Killed, Two Others Injured in Landmine Explosion in Hama

A tragic incident involving war remnants has occurred in the northern countryside of Hama, resulting in the death of a child and injuries to two other family members. The explosion, caused by a landmine, took place in the city of Halfaya.
According to the media office director of the Hama Health Directorate, the blast occurred within an agricultural field while the family was working to harvest their olive crop.
The explosion claimed the life of four-year-old Ahmed Abdel Karim Al-Othman. His mother and uncle, who were accompanying him at the site, sustained injuries in the blast. Both were immediately transported to a private hospital in the city of Mahardah to receive the necessary medical treatment. Initial reports indicate that their health condition is stable and currently considered good.
This incident highlights the ongoing danger posed by landmines and unexploded ordnance to civilians in areas of Syria that previously experienced military operations. The northern countryside of Hama saw a similar incident earlier this month, when an eight-year-old child was injured following a landmine explosion in the village of Al-Hamamiyat.
In response to these risks, relevant authorities in Syria continue their efforts to secure affected areas through operations focused on removing landmines, unexploded ordnance, and other suspicious objects. These efforts are part of broader government plans aimed at enhancing stability in these areas, facilitating the movement of residents, and ensuring a return to normal life in affected villages and towns. Furthermore, work is ongoing to clear debris and rubble from sites that suffered destruction during the conflict.
