Rehabilitation Work Begins on Raqqa’s Southern Entrance Service Road

The General Establishment for Construction and Housing in Raqqa, in coordination with the governorate and the city council, has commenced a project to rehabilitate the service road located at the southern entrance of Raqqa. This initiative follows the ongoing efforts to revitalize the southern entrance, which began approximately a month ago as part of a broader plan to improve local infrastructure and enhance the city’s aesthetic and civic appeal.
Ahmed Al-Shalash, director of the General Establishment for Construction and Housing branch, stated that the project involves a comprehensive rehabilitation of the sidewalks, the central median, and the service road itself. The project covers a length of 1,500 meters with a width of 8 meters. According to Al-Shalash, the new service road will play a vital role in easing traffic congestion on the adjacent highway, while also providing a scenic overlook for the nearby park area.
Regarding the technical specifications, the branch director confirmed the selection of interlock stones for the project. This material was chosen for its durability and resistance to weather conditions, which will ensure the quality and longevity of the road. Field crews are working according to a set schedule, with completion expected by the end of the year, provided that weather conditions remain favorable for construction progress.
Local residents have expressed satisfaction with the commencement of these service improvements. Wahid Al-Hassan, a resident of Aleppo Street, highlighted the importance of such projects in improving the city’s daily services. He expressed his hope that this standard of work would be extended to include all streets and roads throughout Raqqa, contributing to the holistic development of the city and its facilities.
Since last August, Raqqa has witnessed a series of service-related projects aimed at modernizing infrastructure. These efforts are part of a comprehensive plan overseen by relevant governorate and municipal authorities, designed to enhance public services, facilitate smoother transit for citizens, and ensure that the city’s entrances reflect an appropriate and modern image.
