Deir ez-Zor Agricultural Bank Pays 75% of Wheat Dues

The Agricultural Cooperative Bank in Deir ez-Zor province has successfully disbursed between 70 and 75 percent of the payments owed to wheat farmers for the current agricultural season. This initiative is part of broader efforts by Syrian state institutions to bolster the agricultural sector and ensure the stability of local production.
Mohammad al-Akl, Director of the Agricultural Cooperative Bank in Deir ez-Zor, confirmed that the bank’s six branches operating across the province are actively processing payments for both public and private sector farmers. He noted that the disbursement process is proceeding efficiently and consistently. Al-Akl explained that the Central Bank is working diligently to provide the necessary liquidity, supported by a clear operational plan aimed at settling all remaining dues before the end of this month.
Marwan al-Khalaf, a member of the Executive Office for Financial Services and Banking in the province, stated that efforts are underway to increase liquidity in the banks designated for payment operations. He emphasized that the current financial situation is stable and that there are commitments to further enhance liquidity to ensure the needs of the farmers are met.
In a related context, several local farmers, including Bassam Mohammad al-Ali and Mohammad Hassan al-Abdullah, have expressed a need for increased facilities and support for the wheat farming sector. They highlighted that such measures are essential to encourage farmers to boost production and maintain stability. Furthermore, they urged authorities to issue their financial dues in a single payment rather than in installments, which they noted would help alleviate their financial burdens.
This payment process holds particular significance as the start of the new agricultural season approaches. Farmers rely on the liquidity generated from wheat sales to secure vital production inputs, such as seeds, fertilizers, and fuel required to operate machinery. Additionally, these funds cover the costs associated with plowing and preparing agricultural lands. These measures are part of the government’s ongoing policy to support farmers, ensure the continuity of the production cycle, and enhance regional food security.
