Deir ez-Zor Agricultural Bank Pays 75% of Wheat Dues

The Agricultural Cooperative Bank in Deir ez-Zor has completed the disbursement of approximately 70 to 75 percent of payments due to wheat farmers for the current agricultural season. This initiative is part of broader efforts by Syrian state institutions to support the agricultural sector and ensure the stability of local production.

Mohammad Al-Akl, Director of the Agricultural Cooperative Bank in Deir ez-Zor, confirmed that the bank’s six branches across the province are actively processing payments for both public and private sector farmers. He noted that the payment process is proceeding smoothly and systematically. Al-Akl explained that the Central Bank is working diligently to provide the necessary liquidity, with a clear action plan in place to finalize the disbursement of all remaining dues before the end of the current month.

Marwan Al-Khalaf, a member of the executive office for financial services and banks in the province, stated that efforts are underway to bolster liquidity at the branches designated for payment operations. He emphasized that the financial situation is currently stable, with additional commitments secured to ensure the ongoing needs of farmers are met.

Meanwhile, several farmers in the region, including Bassam Mohammad Al-Ali and Mohammad Hassan Al-Abdullah, have called for increased facilitation and support for the wheat cultivation sector. They stated that further assistance is essential to encourage farmers to expand production and maintain stability. Additionally, they urged the authorities to process their financial dues in a single payment rather than in installments, noting that this would help alleviate their financial burdens.

The timing of these payments is particularly critical as the new agricultural season approaches. Farmers rely on the liquidity generated from wheat sales to secure necessary production inputs, including seeds, fertilizers, and the fuel required to operate machinery. Furthermore, funds are needed to cover the costs of plowing and preparing agricultural land. These measures are part of a government initiative aimed at supporting farmers to ensure the continuity of production and to strengthen food security within the region.
