250,000 Captagon Pills Seized in Southern Homs Countryside

The Homs Anti-Narcotics Branch conducted a successful security operation yesterday evening, resulting in the seizure of 250,000 Captagon pills. The operation was launched following reports of suspicious vehicle activity near an abandoned farm in the southern countryside of Homs.

Maher Shabib, head of the Homs Anti-Narcotics Branch, stated that two suspects were apprehended during the operation. According to Shabib, a search of the vehicle led to the discovery of 50,000 pills stored in a white bag, while the remaining 200,000 pills were found expertly concealed within the vehicle’s spare tire.

This security action is part of an ongoing effort to dismantle drug trafficking and distribution networks in the region. Shabib noted that this operation follows recent successes, including the seizure of 200,000 Captagon pills in the western countryside of Homs just last week. He emphasized that security forces will continue their operations to identify and dismantle smuggling rings.

Authorities have issued a call to the public to cooperate by reporting any suspicious activity involving vehicles, motorcycles, or individuals suspected of involvement in the possession or trafficking of narcotics. Officials stressed that community cooperation is a fundamental pillar in strengthening regional security and protecting society.

Recent weeks have seen an intensification of security measures at border crossings and on major highways. In a separate operation yesterday, the Anti-Narcotics Directorate intercepted an attempt to smuggle more than 100,000 Captagon pills hidden in the spare tire of a refrigerated truck heading toward Saudi Arabia via the Nassib border crossing. Additionally, on Friday, customs officials at the Jdeidat Yabous border crossing successfully thwarted an attempt to smuggle approximately 129,000 Captagon pills that were being transported into Syrian territory.

Syrian security authorities continue to work toward dismantling the smuggling and distribution networks that have been active in recent years. Large quantities of narcotics have been confiscated and destroyed in successive operations targeting traffickers at all levels. These efforts aim to curb the spread of the drug trade within Syrian society and prevent the exploitation of Syrian territory as a transit point for regional smuggling operations.
