Idlib Seminar Highlights Women’s Role in Development and Heritage

The Idlib Culture Directorate organized a seminar titled “The Role of Women in Building Communities and Preserving Heritage” on Sunday at the Arab Cultural Center in the city. The event, held as part of the activities marking “Syrian Women’s Week,” aimed to emphasize the pivotal role of women as essential partners in societal development and the preservation of cultural identity.

Dr. Najwa Qassas, a professor of Arabic literature at the University of Idlib, led the seminar. She examined the contributions of Syrian women through three key thematic pillars. The first focused on the role of women in strengthening social cohesion and their contribution to creating a stable and sustainable society. The second pillar addressed innovation and entrepreneurship, highlighting the active role women play in digital transformation and business initiatives.

In the third segment of the discussion, the seminar examined the importance of women in protecting tangible and intangible heritage from being lost. In a statement following the event, Dr. Qassas explained that the session went beyond defining tangible heritage. It also proposed practical recommendations for its preservation, stressing that women hold a fundamental responsibility in fostering awareness of cultural heritage and ensuring its transmission to future generations. Dr. Qassas also commended the engagement of the audience, noting that the quality of questions raised during the event reflected a deep awareness of the issues discussed.

Attendees at the seminar highlighted the importance of restoring the leading role of Syrian cultural centers within the local cultural landscape. Ahmed Al-Hamada, one of the participants, stated that the community’s interaction with these centers serves as a positive indicator, fostering direct dialogue between citizens and academics. He described the initiative as a promising step toward a better future.

In a related context, participant Khadija Shaqrouq expressed her appreciation for such events. She pointed to their effectiveness in empowering women and enhancing their ability to participate actively in educating the younger generation about national identity and heritage.

The event reflects the ongoing efforts to activate the role of cultural institutions in Idlib. It serves to underscore the status of Syrian women across various social, cultural, and economic spheres as a fundamental pillar in the development and advancement of Syrian society.
