Residents in Al-Hasakah Demand Restoration of State Institutions

A large public demonstration took place in Freedom Square in the center of Al-Hasakah city this Friday, drawing residents from the city and its surrounding countryside. The participants gathered to demand the swift restoration of Syrian state sovereignty and the full activation of all official and public service institutions throughout the province.

Demonstrators carried the Syrian flag and raised banners calling for the unification of all local efforts under the authority of the Syrian state. Their demands focused on strengthening civil peace and addressing the deteriorating state of public services. Furthermore, those in attendance emphasized the need to improve the security situation by expanding the presence of Internal Security Forces across the province. They advocated for these forces to assume full responsibility for security and urged the authorities to open recruitment and enlistment opportunities for local youth to join their ranks.

Among their primary demands, the participants called for transparency regarding the fate of detainees and individuals who went missing during the period when the ‘SDF’ forces held control over the region. The protesters also highlighted the urgent need for large-scale service projects to support failing infrastructure and to develop critical sectors such as education and healthcare. There was a particular emphasis on the importance of attracting investment projects that could provide job opportunities and improve the living conditions of the local population.

To ensure the security of the demonstration and prevent any disturbances or threats to civil peace, units of the Internal Security Forces were deployed throughout the main streets and the perimeter of Freedom Square. Concurrently, teams from the Al-Hasakah Directorate of Emergency and Disaster Management, in coordination with the ambulance division of the Syrian Arab Red Crescent branch, were present at the scene. They remained on standby with medical teams and ambulances to provide urgent medical assistance if needed.

This event follows a similar popular movement that took place in the province last Friday. During that previous demonstration, residents of Al-Hasakah took to the streets in marches involving both cars and motorcycles, waving Syrian flags to reiterate their commitment to the presence of state institutions and the achievement of security and stability across all regions of the province.
