Algeria Condemns Ongoing Israeli Aggression Against Syria and Lebanon

Algerian Foreign Minister Ahmed Attaf has strongly condemned the ongoing Israeli military actions targeting the sovereignty of Syria and Lebanon. Reaffirming his country’s steadfast position, Attaf declared Algeria’s categorical rejection of any violations against the sovereignty and territorial integrity of nations.
Attaf made these remarks during an address marking the National Day of Algerian Diplomacy. He expressed Algeria’s full solidarity with the leaderships and peoples of both Syria and Lebanon as they navigate the current, concerning regional developments.
In his speech, the Foreign Minister highlighted Algeria’s historical commitment to supporting just causes. He asserted that the establishment of a more equitable international order requires justice for oppressed peoples who aspire to self-determination. Attaf also voiced concern regarding global geopolitical shifts, noting that these transformations raise significant questions about the future of the international system and the willingness of the global community to uphold established principles, particularly amidst efforts to marginalize the role of the United Nations.
Addressing the Palestinian cause, Attaf reaffirmed Algeria’s unconditional support for the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people, most notably their right to establish an independent state with Jerusalem as its capital. He denounced the ongoing military operations in the Gaza Strip and the West Bank, calling upon the international community to adopt a firm stance to halt these assaults and ensure respect for international law.
On a broader regional scale, the Foreign Minister expressed Algeria’s regret over the failure of ongoing efforts to de-escalate regional tensions. He emphasized the vital importance of dialogue and reconciliation. Attaf condemned the violence affecting other Arab nations, including Libya, Sudan, Somalia, and Yemen, reiterating Algeria’s support for the legitimacy, unity, and territorial integrity of these states. He firmly rejected any foreign interference aimed at dismantling state institutions or destabilizing these nations.
Attaf further stressed that Algeria’s security is inextricably linked to its regional surroundings, noting that the stability of neighboring states is a shared responsibility and duty. He confirmed that Algeria views the values of solidarity and good neighborliness as a core strategic choice. The nation continues to support all genuine efforts to address the root causes of crises, provided such efforts are conducted within the framework of complete respect for state sovereignty, independence, and national unity.
This position echoes statements made by the Algerian Foreign Minister last month during the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York. During that session, Attaf emphasized the necessity of ending Israeli aggression against Syria and Lebanon, while urging the international community to uphold its responsibilities in enforcing international law and ensuring that state sovereignty is respected.
