Syrian Delegation Joins International Technical Consultations in Vienna

A Syrian delegation, headed by Brigadier General Khaled Eid, Director of the Anti-Narcotics Department at the Ministry of Interior, participated in a series of high-level technical consultations at the Vienna International Centre. The meetings were held in collaboration with experts and officials from the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC).
The consultations, conducted within the framework of technical cooperation, focused on strategies to enhance security capabilities regarding drug control. A primary objective of the discussions was to explore mechanisms for investigating and dismantling clandestine laboratories involved in the production of illicit substances. Furthermore, the two sides examined the critical importance of developing forensic procedures and evidence-gathering techniques. The dialogue also covered internationally recognized standards for the safe handling and disposal of hazardous chemical waste resulting from illicit manufacturing processes.
In addition to the formal consultations, the Syrian delegation engaged in a study visit and extensive specialized discussions regarding drug control efforts. These sessions centered on vital areas aimed at strengthening the national response to the proliferation of narcotic and chemical substances. The participants also explored ways to improve international cooperation mechanisms, specifically focusing on the exchange of security and technical expertise with relevant UN bodies.
This participation reflects the technical efforts being undertaken by the relevant Syrian authorities to improve their performance in addressing security challenges associated with the spread of narcotics. The engagement underscores a commitment to aligning national procedures with global standards and best practices supported by the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime.
