Syria and Qatar Discuss Enhanced Emergency and Rescue Cooperation

Syria’s Minister of Emergency and Disaster Management, Raed Al-Saleh, has held official discussions with Qatar’s Minister of Interior and Commander of the Internal Security Force (Lekhwiya), Khalifa bin Hamad Al Thani. The talks focused on developing bilateral cooperation in the fields of emergency response, search and rescue, and specialized training.

The meeting was held as part of ongoing efforts to bolster joint operations and enhance national capacities to address crises and disasters. Following the discussions, Minister Al-Saleh utilized the social media platform X to express his gratitude to Qatar, acknowledging the country’s sincere and fraternal stance toward Syria. He emphasized the significant value of Qatar’s continued support in strengthening the capabilities of Syrian national institutions.

Al-Saleh noted that this partnership directly contributes to serving the Syrian people and supporting recovery and stabilization efforts. Furthermore, he highlighted that the collaboration is essential for building the technical and operational capacities required for effective emergency management. This initiative represents a continuation of efforts to strengthen bilateral relations across service-oriented and humanitarian sectors.

This cooperation builds upon previous support provided by the State of Qatar. In October of last year, the Syrian Ministry of Emergency and Disaster Management received a shipment of specialized firefighting vehicles and emergency response equipment. That delivery was facilitated by the Qatari Internal Security Force (Lekhwiya) in coordination with the Qatar Fund for Development and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP). These initiatives are part of a broader framework aimed at bolstering Syria’s emergency response infrastructure.
