Expansion of Cardiac Surgery and Catheterization Services in Syria

The public health sector in Syria has seen a qualitative expansion in the provision of specialized cardiac services. This development is part of an ongoing effort to strengthen medical care within national hospitals across various governorates.
Recent data highlights significant demand for these critical services. The Tartus National Hospital alone has recorded more than 10,000 specialized cardiac procedures, underscoring both the vital nature of this care and the high volume of patients seeking treatment. These services encompass a range of complex medical procedures that are essential for saving lives and managing various cardiac conditions.
In a parallel development, the national hospitals in Daraa and Deir ez-Zor have also registered hundreds of specialized cardiac interventions. These figures indicate a comprehensive expansion plan designed to bolster the capabilities of hospitals located outside central hubs. By providing cardiac surgery and catheterization services locally, the initiative aims to reduce the burden on patients who previously had to travel long distances for specialized care.
These advancements are a core component of the Syrian Ministry of Health’s strategy to develop the medical infrastructure of its affiliated hospitals. This includes providing the necessary equipment for cardiac surgeries, as well as diagnostic and therapeutic catheterization procedures. Such medical services are among the most costly to implement and require both high-level technical expertise and advanced, specialized equipment.
These expansions are contributing to an overall improvement in the quality of healthcare provided to citizens. By ensuring the continuity of operations in specialized cardiology departments despite the broader challenges facing the health sector, national hospitals are striving to cover a wider range of medical needs for patients across various Syrian regions.
