Temperatures Rise in Syria With Chance of Rain Showers

Most regions across Syria experienced a rise in temperatures on Sunday, bringing them to around or slightly below their annual averages. This weather pattern coincides with the country remaining under the influence of a shallow surface depression originating from the southeast, coupled with humid southwesterly currents in the upper atmosphere.
The National Center for Meteorology reported that the weather is expected to remain generally partly cloudy across most regions during the day. There is an ongoing possibility of thundery rain showers, with this potential concentrated primarily in the coastal and northwestern regions of the country.
As night approaches, the weather will turn generally cool, with temperatures dropping further to become cold in mountainous areas. The Center also noted an increase in humidity levels overnight, warning of the potential formation of fog during the late night and early morning hours. This is expected to affect parts of the central region, the Qalamoun area, as well as the northwestern and southern regions.
Regarding wind activity, the Center explained that winds will be westerly to southwesterly during the day, shifting to westerly and northwesterly overnight. Wind speeds are expected to remain between light and moderate, with occasional active gusts that may exceed 50 km/h, particularly in the central, coastal, and southern regions, as well as in mountainous areas. The sea is expected to have light wave heights.
Temperature records for the day showed notable variations across Syrian governorates. In Damascus, the high and low temperatures were recorded at 30/14°C, while the Rif Dimashq-Qalamoun area saw 24/11°C. Daraa recorded 31/16°C, As-Suwayda 29/15°C, and Quneitra 27/15°C. In the central region, Homs recorded 29/16°C and Hama 30/18°C.
In the coastal regions, Tartus recorded 29/21°C and Latakia 28/20°C. Northern and northwestern Syria saw temperatures reach 29/17°C in Aleppo and 27/17°C in Idlib. In the eastern regions, Deir ez-Zor recorded 32/20°C, Raqqa 30/19°C, and Al-Hasakah 30/21°C.
