Daraa Faces Power Shortages Following Key Generation Plant Outages

Daraa province has experienced a significant decline in its electricity supply, losing approximately 60 megawatts from its allocated power quota. The reduction follows the emergency shutdown of major power generation stations at Deir Ali, Al-Nasiriyah, and Tishreen, all located in the countryside of Damascus.
Walid Al-Mustafa, Head of Operations at the Daraa Electricity Company, explained that the drop in available power is directly linked to an explosion that damaged the gas pipeline supplying the Tishreen power station. The incident disrupted the essential gas flow required to operate the generation units. Al-Mustafa stated that technical teams are currently working to address the damage caused by the fire resulting from the explosion. He added that the current power rationing schedule in the province has been temporarily adjusted to provide one and a half hours of electricity, with plans to improve service levels once the damaged stations are returned to service and additional generation capacity is secured.
Further complicating the situation, technical and operational issues emerged within the network following the disconnection of the “Sheikh Miskin” line originating from the direction of Damascus. As this line serves as a primary supply route, its disconnection, compounded by the shutdown of the “Midan 2” 230kV line, has led to power outages in both Daraa and As-Suwayda provinces.
The service sector has also been impacted by these electrical disruptions. The General Establishment for Drinking Water and Wastewater in Daraa announced that its water pumping stations across the province have suspended operations. The suspension is a direct consequence of the loss of electrical power caused by the failures at the primary generation plants.
Earlier today, the Syrian Electricity Company confirmed the outage of the Deir Ali, Al-Nasiriyah, and Tishreen stations due to the incident involving the gas pipeline at the Tishreen site. This development has had a direct impact on the stability of the electrical grid across all provinces reliant on these specific supply lines and power stations.
