Minister of Education Discusses Educational Cooperation with Turkey
Syrian Minister of Education, Mohammad Abdul Rahman Turko, met with the Turkish Ambassador to Damascus, Nuh Yilmaz, and his accompanying delegation at the ministry’s headquarters in the Syrian capital on Sunday. The discussion focused on exploring prospects for strengthening cooperation and coordination between the two countries in the educational sector, with an emphasis on exchanging expertise and experiences to support the development of institutional work in the field.
The talks placed particular emphasis on advancing technical and vocational education. Both sides expressed interest in leveraging Turkish expertise in this vital sector to modernize the education system, improve outcomes, and better align them with the needs of the labor market and modern pedagogical developments. Furthermore, the meeting addressed mechanisms for expanding coordination to ensure the improvement of educational services provided to students and the overall development of educational institutions.
During the meeting, Minister Turko emphasized the importance of these initiatives in bolstering bilateral cooperation. He stated that the exchange of educational experiences serves as a fundamental pillar for improving the quality of education and achieving qualitative advancements in academic performance within Syria. In this context, Ambassador Yilmaz extended an official invitation to Minister Turko to visit Turkey. The visit is intended to allow the Minister to observe the Turkish educational experience firsthand, thereby opening new horizons for joint efforts.
This meeting occurs as part of an ongoing trend of increasing educational cooperation between Syria and Turkey. Minister Turko previously met with his Turkish counterpart, Yusuf Tekin, in September 2025, where the two officials discussed strengthening educational cooperation and the exchange of technical expertise. These interactions reflect a continuous effort to enhance bilateral relations in developmental and educational areas.
