Temperature Drop and Heavy Rain Warnings Issued Across Syria
Most regions across Syria are experiencing a notable drop in temperatures today, Sunday, with mercury levels settling around or slightly below their annual averages. This cooling trend is the result of atmospheric instability affecting the country and serves as a precursor to a weather depression expected to take hold from dawn on Monday and persist through Thursday.
According to the National Center for Meteorology, the daytime weather will generally range between clear and partly cloudy. However, conditions are set to become cloudier in coastal regions, where there is an increased likelihood of rain showers. These showers may become heavy and accompanied by thunderstorms, starting initially along the Syrian coast. Meanwhile, the eastern regions and the desert areas (Badia) are experiencing hazy conditions.
During the night, a generally cool atmosphere will prevail, particularly in mountainous areas, accompanied by rising humidity levels in the western regions. The Center has also issued a warning regarding the potential for light fog formation during the early morning hours in parts of the central region, the Qalamoun area, and the Ghouta of Damascus.
Regarding wind activity, the Center indicated that winds will be westerly to southwesterly, ranging from moderate to active. Wind speeds may occasionally exceed 50 km/h, especially in the central, northern, and southern regions, leading to dust storms in inland areas. Sea conditions are expected to range from light to moderate in wave height during the night.
The recorded high and low temperatures across Syrian provinces are as follows: Damascus 31/19°C, Rural Damascus-Qalamoun 24/12°C, Quneitra 27/16°C, Daraa 28/17°C, and As-Suwayda 29/16°C. In the central region, temperatures in Homs will reach 26/19°C, while Hama will see 29/20°C. In the coastal areas, Latakia and Tartus are recording 26°C for the high and 23-24°C for the low. In the north, Aleppo will reach 30/21°C, and Idlib 28/21°C. Finally, in the eastern region, Deir ez-Zor is recording 37/22°C, Raqqa 35/21°C, and Al-Hasakah 37/33°C.
