23rd International Dental Scientific Conference Concludes in Damascus
The 23rd International Dental Scientific Conference (SIDC 2026) recently concluded at the Damascus Fairgrounds, wrapping up a successful three-day event dedicated to advancing dental medicine. The conference drew widespread participation, hosting approximately 5,000 physicians and visitors, including 3,500 dentists from across Syria and several other Arab nations. The event served as a major professional platform for practitioners to share expertise and explore the latest developments in the field.
Mohammad Bashir al-Samail, head of the Syrian Dental Association, stated that the conference’s scientific recommendations focused primarily on enhancing practice standards across various dental specialties. Particular emphasis was placed on orthodontics, oral and maxillofacial surgery, endodontics, and aesthetic dentistry. Al-Samail highlighted the growing importance of integrating artificial intelligence into modern medical practice, noting that this shift is essential to align local services with rapid global technological and scientific progress.
To ensure the long-term impact of the sessions, the association plans to compile all research and key topics presented during the conference into a scientific book, which will be distributed to participants. Al-Samail further noted that the organization is currently developing ambitious plans for future events. These include expanding the scale of workshops and specialized exhibitions, as well as enhancing infrastructure to accommodate the rising number of Arab and international experts expected to attend.
Heba al-Halou, head of the conference’s scientific committee, reported that the program featured 78 specialized lectures delivered by a selection of prominent speakers, covering the latest studies and outcomes in dental science. A significant highlight of the event was the launch of the inaugural issue of the “Syrian Journal of Dentistry,” designed to serve as a reliable scientific reference that keeps pace with sector developments.
Beyond the academic program, the conference hosted a specialized exhibition featuring approximately 75 companies from Syria, the Arab world, and abroad. These exhibitors showcased the latest equipment and technical materials used in modern dental clinics. The extensive exhibition provided a valuable opportunity for participating physicians to examine new technologies directly and explore how to apply them to improve the quality of medical services provided to patients in Syria. The conference represents a strategic step in the association’s ongoing efforts to elevate professional standards and continuously develop the skills of Syrian medical personnel.
