Syria, China’s ZXAUTO Discuss Investment in Vehicle Assembly

Official discussions were held in Damascus between the Syrian Investment Agency and a delegation from the Chinese automotive manufacturer ZXAUTO. The meeting was part of broader state efforts to bolster the industrial sector and introduce modern technology to local production lines.
Talks at the agency’s headquarters focused on investment opportunities within the automotive manufacturing and assembly sector, as well as strategies for establishing joint ventures to accelerate local production. The Director of the Syrian Investment Agency, Ahmed Rawad Ramadan, met with the Chinese delegation to review the technical and logistical requirements necessary to launch vehicle assembly lines in Syria.
This initiative represents the first phase of a strategic vision aimed at gradually expanding toward full-scale manufacturing, with a particular focus on developing auxiliary industries that support this critical sector. Both parties emphasized the importance of increasing the percentage of locally sourced components in produced vehicles, which is expected to help build an integrated industrial value chain within Syria.
Key elements of the proposed work plan include creating new job opportunities for the national workforce, as well as the transfer of Chinese technical knowledge and engineering expertise in the automotive field to the Syrian market. These measures are designed to enhance the efficiency of local production in accordance with international standards.
During the meeting, the Director of the Syrian Investment Agency highlighted the incentives and benefits provided by the Syrian Investment Law for industrial projects. He explained the procedures for company registration and the facilitation of legal and administrative requirements. The agency provided detailed responses to the investors regarding technical specifications and the investment environment available to international companies seeking to enter the Syrian market.
ZXAUTO is recognized for its specialization in the development and manufacturing of pickup trucks and sport utility vehicles (SUVs). The company’s production policies are based on modern technology and rigorous quality standards, focusing on providing vehicles known for high efficiency and reliability. These factors are expected to improve the prospects for the success of this partnership should it be fully activated.
These discussions come as the Syrian government seeks to attract qualitative foreign investments to support the national economy and alleviate pressures on the transport sector. By strengthening domestic products and reducing reliance on imports, the government aims to invigorate the industrial sector. This meeting is part of a series of Syrian efforts to deepen economic cooperation with international partners, particularly with Chinese companies that possess the advanced technical and industrial base necessary to assist in reconstruction and industrial revitalization.
