Damascus to Host Republic Taekwondo Championship for Women

The Al-Jalaa Sports City in Damascus is set to host the Republic Taekwondo Championship for youth and adult female athletes. The event is scheduled to take place from October 8 to 10, as part of a strategic initiative by the Syrian Taekwondo Federation to promote women’s sports and foster technical development across all skill levels.

According to the official circular issued by the federation, the championship is open to athletes holding both colored belts and black belts. Detailed age groups and weight categories have been established to ensure organized competition.

For the youth category, the competition is open to athletes born between 2009 and 2011. The weight classes for this division are set at 42, 44, 46, 49, 52, 55, 59, 63, 68, and over 68 kilograms. The adult category is designated for athletes born in 2008 and 2009 and earlier, with weight classes including 46, 49, 53, 57, 62, 67, 73, and over 73 kilograms.

Regarding technical organization, the federation has confirmed that the championship will utilize a single-elimination system to maintain high competitiveness. The officiating protocols will differ based on the athlete’s rank: traditional judging will be used for colored belt bouts, while black belt matches will be governed by the internationally recognized KPNP electronic scoring system. This implementation aims to ensure precision and strict adherence to the standards set by the World Taekwondo Federation.

This championship represents a significant sporting event on the Syrian calendar. It serves as a platform for authorities to elevate the performance standards of female athletes and provide an organized competitive environment designed to cultivate national talent. These efforts are intended to prepare athletes for future representation in regional and international sporting events.
