Tartus Governor Discusses Municipal Cooperation with Aegean Union
Tartus Governor Ahmed Al-Shami held a meeting on Monday with Ahmed Aras, head of the Union of Aegean Coastal Municipalities in Turkey, and his accompanying delegation to discuss prospects for strengthening cooperation between the two sides. The talks focused on enhancing municipal operations and urban planning to improve essential services for the residents of Tartus Governorate.
During the meeting, both parties reviewed mechanisms to modernize and develop municipal work. Discussions included future visions for urban planning and zoning, with a specific focus on organizing residential clusters and street layout planning. Furthermore, the two sides discussed the development of modern regulatory plans for cities and towns, ensuring they align with current developmental requirements.
Talks also addressed opportunities for cooperation within the vital services sector, with a particular emphasis on sanitation. The two parties reached an agreement on the importance of leveraging mutual expertise in this field, especially regarding the construction and upgrading of water treatment plants and sewage networks. This is viewed as a fundamental step toward improving service standards and the environmental situation within the governorate.
The meeting concluded with a consensus to establish joint working groups and conduct periodic coordination meetings. These efforts aim to monitor the proposed areas of cooperation, examine implementation mechanisms, and establish a practical roadmap to ensure continued coordination between the two parties.
This meeting is part of a broader series of initiatives currently being undertaken by Tartus Governorate to bolster developmental activity. On September 2, the Governor held a meeting with representatives from the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), attended by heads of relevant government institutions. That discussion focused on ways to support development projects, stimulate economic activity, and improve livelihoods for citizens in the governorate.
