Homs First Scout Troop Marks End of Summer with City Parade
The Homs First Scout Troop, known as ‘Al-Madariya,’ organized a musical scout parade on Saturday, traversing several streets in the city of Homs. The event served as a festive conclusion to the group’s summer season and a welcoming gesture for the upcoming academic year.
The procession began on Abdul Hamid Al-Daroubi Street, moving through the streets of Al-Dablan, Al-Ghouta, Al-Hamra, and Al-Malab. The march drew widespread participation from the troop’s various units and received a positive response from the city’s residents, who gathered to watch the performance.
Najib Al-Sibai, Dean of the Homs First Scout Troop, stated that the parade served as the culmination of the summer activities conducted by the troop both within and outside the city. He noted that the summer season featured a range of initiatives, volunteer projects, and social activities, as well as awareness and hygiene campaigns. Al-Sibai emphasized that the primary objective of these programs is to instill values of service and citizenship while developing skills to build an active, successful generation capable of contributing to the nation and society.
Raed Homsiya, a scout leader and conductor of the Al-Madariya musical band, explained that the parade was designed to share the joy of the new school year with the people of Homs and to foster a vibrant atmosphere across the city. Homsiya reaffirmed the troop’s commitment to ongoing community programs aimed at strengthening the bonds between the scout movement and local society.
The Homs First Scout Troop (Al-Madariya) is among the oldest scout groups in Syria, boasting 93 years of continuous scouting and educational work. Organizationally affiliated with the Homs Commission under the ‘Syrian Scouts’ organization, the troop remains a fundamental part of the province’s social and educational fabric. It continues its role in youth development through systematic and voluntary activities tailored to foster the individual and collective capabilities of students and young people.
Such events highlight the social role played by youth and educational institutions in Syrian cities. By hosting interactive activities, these institutions strengthen the connection between academic environments and the local community, particularly during seasonal milestones like the start of the new school year.
