4 Killed, 10 Injured in Explosion at Idlib Weapons Depot

A security incident in the northern countryside of Idlib on Wednesday resulted in a large explosion at a temporary storage facility for weapons and war remnants, leading to multiple casualties. According to preliminary data released by the relevant authorities, the explosion claimed the lives of four people and left ten others with injuries ranging from minor to moderate.

The Media and Communications Department of the Ministry of Defense clarified that the site was being used to temporarily collect weapons and remnants of war in preparation for operations to relocate and secure them. The ministry noted that several of its staff members were among those injured in the incident. It further emphasized that its units are working in close coordination with the relevant authorities to fully secure the site and address the aftermath of the explosion.

Sobhi Assaf, director of the media office at the Idlib Health Directorate, stated that rescue teams and the Civil Defense responded immediately to the scene. The teams initiated evacuation operations and transported the injured to nearby medical centers to receive necessary treatment. Assaf indicated that search and rescue efforts are ongoing at the location, as authorities are screening for potential missing persons who may remain trapped under the rubble, given the intensity of the blast, which also caused material damage to the surrounding area.

This incident highlights the persistent risks posed by war remnants and unexploded ordnance across various Syrian regions. Relevant authorities are engaged in continuous efforts to clear these sites and collect hazardous materials to minimize similar incidents. Medical and security services remain in a state of high alert in the area to monitor the condition of the injured and complete the necessary procedures to secure the site and ensure the region is free from any further threats linked to the explosion.
