Three Dead, Dozens Injured in Road Accidents and Fires Across Syria
Emergency response teams across Syria have reported a surge in casualties resulting from a series of traffic accidents and fires over the past 24-hour period. According to the latest data from the Civil Defense, these incidents have left three people dead and 36 others injured in various governorates throughout the country.
The Civil Defense reported that its teams responded to 20 separate traffic accidents within the last day. These incidents alone resulted in two fatalities and left 34 civilians with varying degrees of injuries. Emergency responders provided immediate first aid at the scene of each collision before transferring the injured to local hospitals for further medical care. In addition to the medical response, teams worked to clear damaged vehicles and debris from roadways to restore traffic flow and secure the sites of the accidents.
In a separate set of operations, emergency teams also managed 104 fire-related incidents across the country. The majority of these fires occurred in residential buildings, commercial shops, and public areas, involving materials such as trash, electrical wiring, and dry vegetation. Among these incidents, three fires specifically targeted agricultural lands and crop fields. These fires resulted in one confirmed fatality and two civilian injuries. While the fires caused significant concern, emergency crews were able to extinguish the blazes and perform cooling operations, ensuring that further damage to surrounding infrastructure was mitigated. Property damage in many of these cases was limited to material losses.
The Civil Defense issued a public advisory in the wake of these events, urging citizens to exercise extreme caution to prevent further fire hazards. Authorities specifically cautioned against lighting fires in forested areas or agricultural fields and emphasized the dangers of disposing of cigarette butts or glass containers along roadsides. Furthermore, the agency warned against the common practice of burning dry grass near homes or on the edges of roads, recommending that residents utilize safer methods for waste removal.
This latest wave of emergencies follows a period of heightened activity for rescue services, which also reported responding to other fire and traffic incidents involving 29 injuries just two days prior. The Civil Defense remains on high alert across all governorates as they continue to manage the aftermath of these incidents and provide ongoing public awareness regarding safety protocols to reduce the frequency of such tragic events in the future.
