Syria Participates in Arab Civil Defense Training Meeting in Tunis

A delegation from the Syrian Ministry of Emergency and Disaster Management participated in the inaugural meeting of training department heads from Arab civil defense and protection agencies. The event was held on November 4–5 in the Tunisian capital at the headquarters of the General Secretariat of the Council of Arab Interior Ministers.

The Syrian delegation was led by the Director of the Training Department, Hussam Badawi. The two-day meeting focused on establishing mechanisms to strengthen joint Arab action regarding specialized training files and facilitating the exchange of professional and technical expertise between civil protection agencies across Arab nations.

Participants discussed strategies for implementing programs to exchange trainers and experts. These efforts are aimed at developing the efficiency of civil defense personnel and improving preparedness levels for rapid response to emergency situations, as well as both natural and man-made disasters.

This gathering marks the first event of its kind specifically for civil defense training managers in the Arab world. Its primary objective is to lay the foundation for sustainable cooperation that contributes to unifying efforts and coordinating training plans, ultimately serving the safety and security of Arab societies. Syria’s participation underscores its commitment to fostering regional relationships and sharing field experience in disaster management.

Previously, on October 11, the Syrian Ministry of Emergency and Disaster Management took part in the 12th meeting of the Arab Partnership for Disaster Risk Reduction, which was also hosted in Tunis. Organized by the United Nations Office for Disaster Risk Reduction (UNDRR), that meeting included delegations from various Arab countries and international and regional organizations focused on developing strategies to reduce disaster risks and improve civil protection infrastructure.
