Cinematic Entertainment Options Expand in Aleppo

The city of Aleppo has recently seen a diversification in the cinematic offerings available to the public. Local theaters, most notably Cinema Al-Zahra, are currently featuring a variety of foreign films, with a focus on horror, action, and suspense genres. These screenings are part of the cultural and entertainment initiatives provided by local cinemas to residents and film enthusiasts.

Among the titles currently playing at Cinema Al-Zahra is “The Painting,” a horror film produced in the United States. The plot follows a father and son who discover an unsettling painting in an isolated house that appears to be pulsing with life. Their lives quickly descend into a series of real-world nightmares as a malevolent entity emerges from the artwork, feeding on the forgotten memories and suppressed traumas of the characters. The film features performances by Angus Macfadyen, John Reale, and Nicolette McKeown.

Also featured in Aleppo’s cinema lineup is “Beware the Booyuna 2,” a co-production between Germany and the United States that blends the action and horror genres. The film tells the story of a medical mission undertaken by a team of doctors in the Amazon rainforest. The nature of their assignment shifts dramatically when the group finds itself in a life-threatening confrontation with a mysterious predator known as the “Booyuna.” The cast includes Logan Marshall-Green, Taylor Schilling, Kiana Madeira, Jackson Beaudoin, Juan Pablo Shuk, and Will Close.

These cinematic offerings reflect the ongoing artistic activities in Syrian cities. Foreign films centered on excitement and suspense continue to attract the attention of local audiences who are seeking diverse entertainment experiences within the province’s cinemas.
