Temperatures Rise Across Syria as Dust Impacts Eastern Regions
Temperatures across Syria are continuing to trend upward, with most regions experiencing conditions between 2 and 5 degrees Celsius higher than the historical averages for this time of year. The National Meteorological Center has issued a forecast characterizing the current weather as summer-like, ranging from hot to relatively hot across the country.
While the days remain primarily clear to partly cloudy, the atmospheric conditions are shifting in the eastern and northeastern provinces. The regions of Deir ez-Zor, Al-Hasakah, and the Syrian Badiya (desert) are experiencing hazy, dusty conditions. This atmospheric instability is being driven by wind patterns that are expected to intensify throughout the afternoon and evening, particularly in the central and southern regions as well as the Al-Jazira area. Wind gusts in these sectors are forecasted to exceed 50 kilometers per hour, resulting in the dispersal of dust and sand across several inland areas.
Following the heat of the day, night-time temperatures are expected to offer a period of moderation. However, higher humidity levels are anticipated in the western, northwestern, and southwestern parts of the country. Forecasters have also noted the potential for light fog to form during the late night and early morning hours, particularly in parts of the central region, as well as some coastal and northern areas. Maritime conditions remain calm, with the sea expected to see only light wave activity.
The temperature variance remains significant between the coastal and interior provinces. According to the latest data provided by the meteorological authorities, the cities of Deir ez-Zor and Al-Hasakah are currently recording the highest temperatures in the country, reaching highs of 43 degrees Celsius. In contrast, coastal regions such as Latakia maintain a more tempered climate, with a maximum of 32 degrees Celsius.
Other major cities are also feeling the impact of the rising heat. Damascus and Daraa are both reaching highs of 38 degrees Celsius, while Homs and Hama are seeing highs of 37 and 39 degrees respectively. Aleppo is following a similar trend with a high of 39 degrees Celsius. In the northern region of Idlib, temperatures are reaching 36 degrees, while the Quneitra region remains slightly cooler at 33 degrees.
As these weather patterns persist, local authorities are monitoring the impact of both the heat and the wind-driven dust, particularly regarding the potential for reduced visibility on regional transport routes. Residents in the affected eastern and central regions are advised to remain aware of changing weather conditions during the late afternoon hours when wind activity is expected to peak.
