Rif Dimashq Authorities Record 354 Market Violations in One Week

The Directorate of Internal Trade and Consumer Protection in Rif Dimashq has intensified its regulatory activities, conducting a widespread campaign to monitor markets and ensure commercial entities comply with established regulations and laws.

According to official data released by the directorate, 354 violations were recorded between October 15 and October 21. This effort is part of ongoing initiatives to supervise market activity and address infractions that directly impact consumer rights.

Abd al-Salam Khalid, Director of Internal Trade and Consumer Protection in Rif Dimashq, stated that inspection teams carried out 114 field tours. These visits covered 1,265 commercial entities across various regions of the province. Khalid noted that the primary objective of these tours is to verify that merchants are adhering to officially mandated pricing, maintaining proper invoicing, and ensuring that goods meet required quality and standard specifications.

The violations documented by the inspection teams were varied. Common infractions included non-compliance with official pricing, failure to issue or exchange proper invoices between commercial intermediaries, cases of product fraud, and violations of health and safety standards. Additionally, the teams recorded observations regarding poor bread production, which remains a priority for market regulators given the importance of this staple food item.

Beyond field inspections, the directorate also addressed 20 consumer complaints filed by citizens during the same period. These complaints were handled in accordance with established legal procedures to uphold consumer protection and ensure citizens’ rights are defended.

This week’s figures follow a similar period from October 8 to October 14, during which the directorate recorded 357 violations. This consistency highlights the ongoing regulatory efforts to monitor commercial activity and pursue market infractions on a weekly basis throughout the province.

These measures are part of a broader commitment by relevant authorities to stabilize market conditions and guarantee that essential goods are accessible to consumers at regulated prices, while adhering to required health and quality standards. Consumer protection patrols continue to monitor markets daily to detect and address any potential legal transgressions.
