Residents in Northern Syria Report Earthquake Originating in Turkey

Residents across northern Syria reported feeling an earthquake during the early hours of Monday morning, as the region continues to experience ongoing seismic activity. The event follows a series of tremors recorded in southern Turkey throughout the previous day.

The National Seismic Center confirmed the detection of the earthquake, which registered a magnitude of 3.8 on the Richter scale. According to the center’s official data, the tremor occurred at 01:52 a.m. local time. The epicenter was identified in the Kadirli district, located approximately 91 kilometers northeast of the Turkish city of Adana, at a focal depth of 8.6 kilometers.

Authorities noted that the tremor was clearly felt by residents throughout northern Syria. This is attributed to the geographic positioning of these areas, which lie along the East Anatolian Fault. This fault system is responsible for the majority of the seismic activity observed within this specific geographical region.

Monday’s earthquake comes on the heels of a series of seismic events recorded in the region over the past day. On Sunday, five primary earthquakes were registered with their centers located in southern Turkey. Residents in several areas of northern Syria reported feeling those tremors as well.

Monitoring teams and relevant seismic centers continue to track the seismic activity in the region. Experts are currently assessing the implications of these developments for Syrian border areas. Authorities remain in a state of heightened vigilance due to the sensitive geological nature of the East Anatolian Fault, which extends across Turkish territory and continues to impact areas within Syria.
