Raqqa National Hospital Sees 30,000 Radiology Patients in Nine Months

The radiology department at Raqqa National Hospital has experienced a high volume of activity over the past nine months, providing essential diagnostic services to more than 30,000 beneficiaries. This initiative is part of an ongoing effort to alleviate the financial burden on residents and ensure access to necessary medical care.
Dr. Ibrahim Al-Mohammad, head of the hospital’s radiology department, confirmed that the facility operates daily to provide routine X-ray services alongside computed tomography (CT) scans. He noted that the hospital’s current 16-slice CT scanner serves as a vital diagnostic tool. The device is instrumental in detecting cancerous tumors, diagnosing traumatic injuries and hemorrhaging, and identifying cases of cerebral infarction. According to Dr. Al-Mohammad, the CT department alone has served over 4,000 patients during the specified period.
Regarding operational efficiency, the department conducts more than 100 X-ray examinations daily. The hospital administration prioritizes cancer patients, given the high costs associated with their diagnostic needs. These patients are accepted from outpatient clinics and oncology centers, such as the Al-Biruni Center, and are granted priority access to ensure they receive services without delay. Other priority cases include those involving cerebrovascular incidents, traffic accident victims, newborns, and children suffering from cerebral atrophy.
Looking toward the future, the head of the radiology department revealed ongoing efforts to coordinate with relevant authorities and organizations to equip the hospital with modern medical technology. The expansion plans include acquiring an MRI machine, a more advanced CT scanner, and a digital radiography (DR) system, all aimed at elevating the standard of medical care available to the public.
These developments are part of the Syrian Ministry of Health’s broader strategy to bolster the healthcare sector in Raqqa province. Earlier this year, the hospital successfully integrated 20 new dialysis machines into its renal unit. The ministry’s official strategy further includes expanding the National Hospital’s capacity to 280 beds and rehabilitating the children’s hospital, with the ultimate goal of strengthening regional health infrastructure and improving care for the local population.
