Damascus Awqaf Honors Quran Memorizers at Summer Course Finale

The Damascus Awqaf Directorate hosted a closing ceremony on Friday to mark the conclusion of its 2026 summer educational courses. Held at the Al-Iman Mosque in Damascus, the event celebrated the achievements of students who excelled in both their academic pursuits and behavioral standards, including several who successfully memorized the Quran.
The ceremony was attended by members of the Supreme Fatwa Council, alongside various educational figures, scholars, and families of the participating students. The program featured a range of segments designed to emphasize the importance of community education and the role of Quranic values in fostering positive personal conduct. Highlights included theatrical performances addressing educational themes, such as the responsibilities of parents in upbringing, as well as interactive dialogues and a visual presentation summarizing the activities and milestones of the qualification program.
Sheikh Muhammad Yusr Al-Shamaa, the preacher at Al-Samana Mosque, stated that the honors serve as a message of appreciation for students who have shown dedication to memorizing the Quran and the Prophetic Sunnah while adhering to high moral standards. He explained that the criteria for recognition went beyond academic knowledge, incorporating assessments of behavioral conduct and filial piety. These evaluations were based on careful monitoring and surveys conducted among parents, underscoring the ministry’s goal to link formal education with ethical responsibility.
Instructor Muhammad Zare’e noted that the curricula were designed to establish a comprehensive value system aimed at preparing a generation capable of serving their country and community with integrity and competence. He detailed that the educational programs encompassed creed studies, Quranic interpretation, and the study of the Prophet’s biography, while also focusing on developing students’ personal skills and encouraging their participation in community initiatives.
One of the honored students, Yamen Al-Salahi, expressed his appreciation for the educational environment, noting that such programs play a vital role in protecting and guiding the youth with sound concepts. This event is part of the Ministry of Awqaf’s ongoing efforts to support the younger generation. Last month, the Ministry held a similar celebration at the Dar Al-Assad for Culture and Arts (Opera House) in Damascus, where it honored 80 winners from various Syrian governorates who achieved top ranks in the second edition of the national Quranic competition.
