Damascus Condemns Houthi Attack on Medina Power Station

The Syrian Arab Republic has condemned in the strongest terms the recent attack by the Houthi militia, which targeted an electrical power distribution station in Medina, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. Damascus described the act as a blatant aggression that infringes upon the sovereignty of the Kingdom and constitutes a clear violation of international law and the principles of good neighborliness.

In an official statement released on Friday, the Syrian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates affirmed Syria’s steadfast position in standing with the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia regarding all legitimate and measured actions taken to maintain its security, stability, and territorial integrity. The Ministry emphasized the urgent necessity to immediately halt these attacks, which target civilian objects, vital infrastructure, and religious sanctities.

This condemnation follows official remarks made on Thursday by the official spokesperson for the Coalition to Restore Legitimacy in Yemen, Brigadier General Turki Al-Maliki. Al-Maliki stated that the Houthi militia targeted the “Taiba” power distribution station in Medina during the early hours of September 29.

Highlighting the gravity of such attacks, the coalition spokesperson pointed out that the targeted station is not merely a utility facility. It serves as a vital installation that plays a central role in providing electrical power to the Prophet’s Mosque. Consequently, these acts fall within the category of direct targeting of civilian objects and sites that carry significant religious symbolism.
