Temperature Drop and Thunderstorm Warnings Issued Across Syria

Syria is experiencing a noticeable drop in temperatures today, Friday, with levels falling below the typical annual averages. Coastal regions reported a slight decrease, while other areas experienced a decline of 2 to 4 degrees Celsius. This shift in weather conditions coincides with official warnings issued by the National Center for Meteorology.

According to meteorological data, the weather activity is expected to intensify starting this afternoon as the country enters a period of atmospheric instability. This is forecast to bring thundery rain to the coast and northwestern regions, with scattered showers expected in parts of the central region, the Damascus countryside, and the Al-Jazeera region. This weather pattern is expected to weaken by Saturday evening before renewed thunderstorm activity begins on Sunday evening, continuing until Monday afternoon.

During the day, the sky will remain partially cloudy to overcast, with scattered rainfall that may be heavy at times, accompanied by thunderstorms and occasional hail. Meanwhile, the eastern regions and the Al-Jazeera area are expected to experience dusty and hazy conditions. Nighttime temperatures will generally be cool, turning cold in mountainous regions, accompanied by high humidity. The National Center for Meteorology has also warned of the likelihood of fog formation overnight and in the early morning hours in the central region, the Qalamoun area, northwestern parts of the country, and parts of the south.

Regarding wind and sea conditions, light to moderate westerly to southwesterly winds are expected. Wind gusts may exceed 40 km/h in the central and southern regions, as well as in the coastal highlands. The sea is expected to range from light to moderate in wave height.

The National Center for Meteorology has issued important safety warnings to citizens, emphasizing that the precipitation continuing through Monday evening may be associated with the formation of heavy convective clouds and thunderstorms. These conditions could trigger strong downdrafts, leading to local dust storms that are difficult to predict geographically. Residents are urged to stay away from valleys and low-lying areas, and to avoid crossing water channels during heavy rainfall, especially in mountainous regions. Furthermore, citizens are advised against using roads that have been flooded or covered in hail.

Additional safety recommendations include avoiding areas near bodies of water, high-altitude locations, electricity towers, and isolated trees during thunderstorms. The public is advised to refrain from using mobile phones or taking photos in open spaces during these events. Authorities also emphasized the necessity of disconnecting solar energy systems and sensitive electronic devices to ensure their safety.

These forecasts come as Syrian governorates see varying temperatures: Damascus recorded 15/26°C; Damascus countryside and Qalamoun 11/20°C; Quneitra 12/22°C; Daraa and As-Suwayda 14/27°C; Homs 16/28°C; Hama 17/27°C; Latakia 20/23°C; Tartus 19/26°C; Aleppo and Idlib 16/25°C; and the Deir ez-Zor, Raqqa, and Al-Hasakah regions recorded temperatures ranging between 18 and 28°C.
