Euphrates Dam Completes Maintenance of Repair Gate No. 2

The Euphrates Dam Authority has announced the successful completion of comprehensive periodic maintenance on repair gate No. 2, a project designed to bolster the technical readiness of the facility’s critical infrastructure and extend its operational lifespan.

According to the Ministry of Energy, maintenance teams at the dam have successfully returned the sandblasting workshop to operational status. This workshop had been out of service for over a decade. Its restoration was instrumental in performing precise and extensive cleaning of the gate, using modern sandblasting technology to remove iron oxides, shells, and mineral deposits that had accumulated on the structure over the years. This process successfully restored the metal surfaces to their original state.

Following the cleaning phase, technical personnel applied three layers of specialized epoxy coating. This material serves as a protective barrier against corrosion and rust, ensuring the structural integrity of the gate and maximizing its operational efficiency.

Repair gate No. 2 serves as a foundational component of the dam’s system, playing a pivotal role in the isolation and dewatering of power generation units. The restoration of this gate to full service will allow for smoother execution of general and preventative maintenance programs, directly contributing to increased operational reliability and the preservation of vital facilities.

These works were executed by local national staff at the Euphrates Dam, who utilized necessary technical resources while strictly adhering to occupational safety protocols throughout the project. This achievement demonstrates the capability of national workshops to rehabilitate essential equipment and overcome technical challenges with high efficiency, in line with the established maintenance schedules for the dam’s facilities.
