Pakistan Reaffirms Condemnation of Israeli Strikes on Syria and Lebanon
Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has reiterated his country’s strong condemnation of the repeated Israeli military actions targeting Syrian and Lebanese territories, calling for an immediate cessation of these operations. The remarks were made during a speech delivered at the United Nations General Assembly in New York, where Sharif emphasized Pakistan’s firm stance on the sovereignty and territorial integrity of nations.
Sharif stated that Pakistan remains clearly opposed to violations that infringe upon state sovereignty. He stressed that the ongoing strikes targeting Syria and Lebanon are developments that must be halted to ensure regional stability. He further linked these positions to Pakistan’s foreign policy, which advocates for the territorial integrity of all states and adherence to the principles of international law.
In a related context, the Pakistani government previously affirmed its commitment to the historic and fraternal relations with Syria through the social media platform ‘X’. The government reiterated its full support for the sovereignty of the Syrian state and its territorial integrity in the face of current challenges.
During his address, the Prime Minister also addressed several regional and international files. He renewed his condemnation of attacks that have targeted the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, asserting that the security of the Two Holy Mosques represents a ‘red line.’ Additionally, Sharif outlined Islamabad’s efforts to foster dialogue within the region. He noted that Pakistan has engaged in negotiations aimed at bridging divergent viewpoints and de-escalating regional tensions, particularly those concerning vital maritime corridors such as the Strait of Hormuz and the Bab al-Mandab Strait, to ensure the stability of the global economy.
Regarding the Palestinian issue, Sharif reaffirmed his country’s full support for the cause of the Palestinian people and their right to establish an independent, sovereign state based on the 1967 borders. He warned of the serious humanitarian consequences resulting from forced displacement. Concluding his speech, the Pakistani Prime Minister called for fundamental reforms in the structure of the United Nations and the Security Council to increase their effectiveness, capability to represent the international community, and ability to achieve accountability and justice in addressing global and regional crises.
