Israeli Artillery Strikes Hill in Rural Damascus

A new field escalation occurred in the western countryside of Damascus on Friday, as Israeli forces conducted an artillery strike targeting the Bat al-Warda hill, located in the vicinity of the town of Beit Jinn. Field sources reported that the Israeli occupation forces fired several artillery shells at the hill. There were no immediate reports regarding civilian casualties or significant material damage.

This incident is part of a series of recurring attacks on the border region. On the 13th of this month, Israeli forces targeted the outskirts of Beit Jinn with seven shells that landed in the Harbun hill area. One day prior to that event, a similar strike occurred in the Ein al-Shaara area north of the town, where a shell landed in agricultural land.

In parallel with the field escalation in rural Damascus, Israeli forces conducted an arrest operation on Friday, detaining a young man in the Wadi al-Raqad area near the town of Jamla in the western countryside of Daraa. These actions are part of a continuous pattern of violations committed by the occupation against southern Syrian regions. Such activities include ground incursions, raids on civilian homes, the detention of individuals, the bulldozing of agricultural lands, and recurring artillery attacks.

Damascus considers these maneuvers a blatant violation of the 1974 Disengagement of Forces Agreement. The Syrian government maintains that all measures taken by the occupying forces in southern Syria are null and void, bearing no legal effect under international law. In its official statements, the Syrian government has emphasized the necessity of a full withdrawal of occupation forces from its territory. Furthermore, authorities have called upon the international community to fulfill its responsibilities by pressuring Israel to halt these violations, which they assert heighten regional tensions and constitute a direct infringement on Syrian sovereignty.
